Dear William,

Tory Party Policy for Scarborough & Whitby

I am writing to you as the Leader of the Conservative Party in this General Election and in the knowledge that your local Party members in this Constituency are hopeful you will pay a visit here during the current campaign.

I am also writing to you for clarification of the implications of your Party's policies as far as this Constituency is concerned; I have already made an approach over a week ago to your Party's local Candidate seeking information on how the latest estimate of your front-bench spokesman of £20bn of cuts in public expenditure would affect this constituency. I regret to say that I have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply from that source and, more importantly, the people of Scarborough & Whitby have yet to have explained to them where this area's share of that cut would fall locally.

For your information I attach a copy of my letter to your Mr Sykes, dated 16th May.

It appears that your Candidate is either unable or unwilling to be specific as to where the estimated £30m share of the cuts would bite here in Scarborough and Whitby.

In the continuing absence of such a response from your local spokesman perhaps you would be good enough to provide myself, and the electors of this Constituency, with the specifics of this somewhat rash and irresponsible policy of your Party.

I am sending a copy of this correspondence to both Mr Sykes and the local press and media.

Lawrie
