After many years full time teaching, I am currently a supply teacher specialising in Early Years and Key Stage One. This year (2010-11) I am teaching in KS1 and 2, including French.
Work Related Skills / Knowledge
- I have kept abreast of educational developments and have attended regular INSET throughout my teaching career. A full list of INSET is here.
- I have a wide experience of supply teaching, which demands its own particular skills, and am able to teach effectively in a wide range of school organisations at short notice, fit in and adapt to school routines etc. in a flexible way.
- I am adaptable and get on well with colleagues and others, quickly forming a good working relationship.
- I have experience of producing and maintaining school policies, and adhering to school policies and practices.
- I am reliable, conscientious and industrious and I have always given full commitment to the children in my care.
Qualifications / Experience
- I am a qualified teacher with a Teaching Certificate from Sunderland College of Education in 1971.
- Since then I have held a number of full time and supply/contract posts for both Sunderland and Durham LEAs. Full details of my teaching service are here.
- I was in a 'pilot' school for Jolly Phonics and have used the system extensively since.
- My last post as a fulltime teacher was at Bishop Harland CE Primary School, Sunderland, from 1994 to August 2001. I left that post for a "sabbatical" and also to pay an extended visit to my daughter in the USA.
- I have extensive experience of the National Curriculum at primary level, especially at Key Stage One. I also have much experience of Nursery and Reception.
- At Bishop Harland, I was responsible for Key Stage One SATs for four years.
- I also taught the Literacy and Numeracy Hours.
- I ran the Family Literacy Project at Bishop Harland.
- I was the school's Mentor for Teaching Assistants.
- I was awarded a share of the School Achievement Award for improved results.
- On Sunderland LEA's and agencies' supply lists. Current CRB clearance.
- I have been teaching at Ryhope St Patrick's since 2002 and contributed to the school's outstanding success in SATs and Ofsted.
- In addition to Literacy and Numeracy with my own class, I am also teaching French in KS2 at St. Patrick's.
- In February 2011 I spent two weeks in France shadowing a French teacher in a primary school and training organised by the British Council and CILT.
